Confidentiality

The confidentiality of patient information is maintained at all times in accordance with NHS guidelines and all staff are regularly reminded of their responsibilities in this regard. Staff receive comprehensive training on confidentiality and consent.

The same standards of confidentiality are applied to information held on our computer system and, in this respect, we are registered under the Data Protection Act.

Data Protection

Many members, including general practitioners and consultants working in private practice, will be considered data controllers under the Data Protection Act 1998 and are therefore bound to inform patients about how they will use the data they hold about them.

More information about patient information can be found in the "patient information - what you need to know" leaflet which can be obtained from reception.

It would therefore be prudent to inform patients that, should a patient make a complaint, the practice may need to provide information about the patient, and treatment they have received, to insurers or legal advisors.
